FAQ's — VIP Grooming Bishopstown

Question 1

How often should I have my dog groomed?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the breed and coat type. Most dogs benefit from seeing the groomer every 4–6 weeks.

Question 2

How long does a groom take?

Accepted Answer

I groom at the pace that your pet allows via the body language he/she exhibits — their comfort level is a priority for me. Grooming appointments take anywhere from two to four hours unless otherwise stated. The length of time it takes to groom your pet will depend on coat type and texture, the size of your pet, length of hair, and how accepting the pet is of the grooming process. I will contact you for pick up 30 minutes before your pet is ready.

Question 3

What age can puppies start grooming?

Accepted Answer

Puppies can start their grooming journey from around 12–16 weeks, after their second vaccination. Early positive experiences with grooming help set them up for a lifetime of stress-free appointments.

Question 4

This includes the salon environment, handling techniques, and the overall approach to each dog's individual needs. Question 5

What is matting?

Accepted Answer

Matting occurs when dead hair gets tangled with live hair, lack of regular coat care,  compounded by dirt, grease and oil may result in matting in certain coat types.  Brushing through matts and tangles can cause pain to your pet.  Removing matts from a coat is decided on a case by case basis — the comfort of the pet is paramount. The golden rule kicks in here: humanity before vanity. Severe matting can sometimes require a shorter clip for the welfare of the dog to prevent skin and coat damage.

Question 7

What is de-shedding?

Accepted Answer

De-shedding is the process of removing dead hair from your pet's coat. Regular brushing at home combined with frequent professional grooming can help control shedding, but will not eliminate the shedding of dead hair from an animal's coat. The process of de-shedding your pet involves the use of a bathing system to push product down to the skin, designated tools for the job and coat type, a force dryer, and good old elbow grease to remove loose and dead hair from your pet's coat.

Question 8

What grooming products are used?

Accepted Answer

We select the best quality professional grooming products available with the health and well-being of your pet in mind. We choose products that are Certified cruelty-free and Safe Pet Cosmetics compliant whenever possible.

Question 9

How often do nails need to be trimmed?

Accepted Answer

Dogs that are walked regularly on hard surfaces such as pavements will naturally wear their nails down and may need them trimmed less often. House Dogs or Dogs that are mostly walked on grass or soft ground will need their nails trimmed more often. The goal is to keep the nails trimmed so they do not interfere with the dog's natural gait or cause injury to tendons or bones in the feet.
